A few things to remember about your home as we deal with the extremely cold temperatures. Optimize the performance of your forced air furnace by ensuring the filter is clean. This is a simple process with most units and it can save you a lot of money in energy savings. Energy savings can also be achieved by simply closing any vents around the perimeter of your home (only applies if home is built on a crawlspace.)   Closing the vents will also better protect your water lines from possibly freezing.

Keep your curtains and blinds closed on all of your windows. Make sure all of your windows are properly locked shut. You may also want to inspect the seal strips around your exterior doors. They tend to wear out and can be overlooked. They are easily and inexpensively replaced.
